The existing light fixtures did not meet the current safety requirements and were not airtight. They were replaced with fixtures that comply with the current building codes, are airtight (do not allow airflow between conditioned and unconditioned spaces) and rated for direct contact with attic insulation. The new fixtures also provide a much better quality of light and allow the use of more efficient lamps.
