The existing water pipes in the attic were not insulated. This exposed the pipes to freezing conditions in the winter. It also allows the hot water supply to cool off quickly so users have to wait longer for hot water to arrive at an open tap. The pipes were properly insulated and a hot water recirculating pump was installed to deliver hot water quickly.
