The original wood trim and siding on the house had become so weathered and brittle that it was possible to push through portions of the wood soffit with one's bare hand. As this home was re-roofed, the roofers added the new roof shingles over the existing roof shingles. This home had up to three layers of roof shingles on much of the roof. The outer layer of roof shingles was quickly approaching the end of its life cycle. You can see the shingles cupping if you look at the upper portion of the roof.
