The renovation of and addition to a single-family home is the most challenging residential
project because it combines renovation work with new construction. While renovation work is typically limited in scope and
does not have a dramatic effect on the outward appearance of a home, an addition can have a dramatic effect on the function
and appearance of the home.

changing the function and massing of the building, while observing the original design and construction techniques and
