In response to legislation passed in 2004, the Georgia Secretary of State is currently developing a board to license general contractors in the state of Georgia. By 01 July 2007, all contractors (including residential contractors) will be required to obtain a contractor's license.

As of 2005, Kentucky does not license general contractors.
